Author: Brianne Turczynski

I'm the host and creator of the podcast, Loving the Imperfect. I'm a freelance writer and historical researcher in Detroit. I hold a master’s degree in education from Oakland University with a concentration in English and history. My fiction and poetry have appeared in Halcyone Magazine, The 3288 Review, The Write Launch, and the Ketchup Press. My nonfiction has been featured in Valley Living Magazine, Michigan Out of Doors Magazine, and Planet Detroit News. I have won awards for my writing through Oakland University, and my film, Not For Sale was selected for four film festivals. In my spare time, I whittle, repair broken violins, and I love to fish. I reside somewhere in Michigan with my husband, children, and the fastest dog that ever lived.

Journal or Diary writing..

February 17, 2020 ~ Brianne Turczynski ~ 2 Comments

. As you can see, I do!! I started keeping a diary when I was about 9. Most of what I wrote was complete nonsense, and more than once my friends would chime into the pages saying obscene things to be funny. I think I will burn all of these someday, but for now they … Continue reading Journal or Diary writing..

The book of First Kings

February 14, 2020 ~ Brianne Turczynski ~ 6 Comments

I have no authority to teach you, these are only my own contemplative thoughts. You might disagree and that’s OK. . . . So they wanted a king, eh? Ok, give them a king. And so, the Israelites got their wish. They rejected God as their king and asked for a human king. These human … Continue reading The book of First Kings

The a story of a Soul by Saint Therese of Lisieux

February 12, 2020 ~ Brianne Turczynski ~ Leave a comment

The Story of a Soul was written by Saint Therese of Lisieux before her death in 1897 at 24 years of age. In it she talks about her “little way” of doing everything with great love. After she died this memoir was passed from hand to hand from priests to nuns and even the Pope, … Continue reading The a story of a Soul by Saint Therese of Lisieux

The Gospel according to Mark

February 7, 2020 ~ Brianne Turczynski ~ Leave a comment

Is it wrong to say I found the book of Mark a little dry? It is wonderful to have the stories of Jesus told to us several different ways through the Gospels of Mark, Luke, John and Matthew, but I have in my notes from a year ago that I thought it was the driest … Continue reading The Gospel according to Mark

Moby Dick by Herman Melville

February 4, 2020 ~ Brianne Turczynski ~ Leave a comment

"Call me Ishmael.” . . . This beautiful illustrated copy of Moby Dick is from the 1930’s can you tell? The Art Deco print gives it away. I have not read it yet, but plan to soon—with gloves on. Because I’m sure this copy is worth something. I love Melville and whale tales/fishing tales. They … Continue reading Moby Dick by Herman Melville

Sissinghurst by Vita Sackville-West and Sarah Raven

February 3, 2020 ~ Brianne Turczynski ~ 4 Comments

The sudden warm weather in Michigan has got me thinking of the garden. A couple years ago I wrote a garden blog every week dedicated to the garden writings of Vita Sackville-West. Some days I miss her writings, her wonderful way of describing “ordinary” flowers and plants like human beings. She knew them all so … Continue reading Sissinghurst by Vita Sackville-West and Sarah Raven

The Second Book of Samuel

January 31, 2020 ~ Brianne Turczynski ~ 1 Comment

I will celebrate before the Lord. I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes.” -2 Samuel 6:21. . . We should not be ashamed to make fools of ourselves for God’s sake. We may have seen people preaching on the street, holding signs, singing in church, … Continue reading The Second Book of Samuel

Lost story about my doc martins…

January 27, 2020 ~ Brianne Turczynski ~ 2 Comments

Lost Story: My inconspicuous Doc Martin sneakers originally purchased as my walking shoes for a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. I signed up for it last November, but motherhood called & I wasn’t able to go. Now they are used to walk with the homeless when I work or visit the soup kitchen. These boots were indeed … Continue reading Lost story about my doc martins…

The book of Samuel

I have no authority to teach you. You might disagree and that’s ok. . . . “Why have you come down here? And with whom did you leave those few sheep in the wilderness? I know how conceited you are and how wicked your heart is; you came down only to watch the battle.” -1 … Continue reading The book of Samuel
