I love having fancy dinners. Tonight for New Year’s Eve my husband’s cousin and I will be serving Cornish game hens, potatoes au gratin, scallops, and green beans with red pepper flakes and garlic for a small party at me casa. When it comes to setting the table I have always consulted my book of etiquette by Amy Vanderbilt—very fancy! May I dream of a life such as hers with servants!? Whoa! I almost feel like the book is too good for me, haha! I’m working on a budget ya’ll, and lack of space so as far as the correct place to of silverware I do what I want now–I made the centerpiece with random plants found on my walks and in my backyard. This makes it more special I think. No servants here!

I believe the book you are reading should be taught to the younger generation from 40 years down. I say this because I have seen many children, and older men, and women with attitudes that shouldn’t be fostered. Our negative views should be addressed. I believe ediquiet did not go out of style. Manners haven’t been what was taught. Respect for the elderly should have been addressed, and there are some words that should never have been used. I believe swearing is an excuse for not knowing enough vocabulary. Really. At times I have been stunned with the language that the little children use with each other. For me, I wasn’t raised with this. I learned words when I taught school. My husband would tell me their meaning. I don’t think it was because I was shielded. My father and mother didn’t swear, and neither did my grand-parents. I didn’t grow up learning those words. Etiquette has to include the manners of speaking ,peacefully.
