Hygge: pronounces Hoo-ga is the Danish way of simple and comfy living.
“Get comfy. Take a break.
Be here now. Turn off the phones.
Turn down the lights. Bring out the candles.
Build relationships. Spend time with your tribe.
Give yourself a break from the demands of healthy living. Cake is most definitely Hygge.
Live life today, like there is no coffee tomorrow.
From picking the right lighting to organizing a Hygge get-together to dressing hygge, Wiking shows you how to experience more joy and contentment the Danish way.” 💕
I'm a freelance writer and historical researcher in Detroit. I hold a master’s degree in education from Oakland University with a concentration in English and history. In addition to being the author of the historical fiction novel, Proper Mourning, my fiction and poetry have appeared in Halcyone Magazine, The 3288 Review, The Write Launch, and the Ketchup Press. My nonfiction has been featured in Valley Living Magazine, Michigan Out of Doors Magazine, and Planet Detroit News. I have won awards for my writing through Oakland University, and I'm currently producing and directing a documentary film about economic and social change in one of Detroit’s oldest neighborhoods. In my spare time, I whittle, repair broken violins, and I love to fish. I reside somewhere in Michigan with my husband, children, and the fastest dog that ever lived.

Daughter Lise lives in Copenhagen, and she has experienced Hygge. She highly recommends it!
No, we have not been to visit, although Lise has begged us to come. I won’t get on an airplane again. I have circulation issues, and I get very stiff when sitting still for long periods. We did enjoy Denmark together 40 years ago!
I took a photo of a row of houses, because they were built for workers centuries ago. When Lise saw that picture a few years ago, she realized it was her bus stop. At the time, she worked near the statue of the Little Mermaid, which everyone goes to see.

I’ve lost track of time. Lise has been in Denmark about 8 or 9 years.

I don’t blame you! I hate flying. At least you got to go once!

We saw a house Hans Christian Andersen lived in. Maybe I took a photo of it. Fingers crossed!
